Research Progress on the Degradation of Lignocellulosic by White Rot Fungi

  • Lignocellulose is the most abundant renewable natural resource on the earth, but it is difficult to be degraded and utilized because of its dense fibrous structure. White rot fungi can cooperatively utilize extracellular cellulose hydrolases, lignin degrading enzymes, organic acids, mediators and coenzymes to degrade lignocellulose and convert lignocellulosic materials into small molecular compounds suitable for biotransformation. This paper analyzes the main processes of lignocellulosic degradation by white rot fungi from two perspectives of enzymatic degradation and non-enzymatic degradation. At the same time, it discusses the fermentation process of lignocellulose degradation by white rot fungi, and summarizes the strategies to improve the degradation efficiency of lignocellulose degradation by white-rot fungi. It aims to expand the development potential of white rot fungi in practical applications. This is expected to provide new ideas for degradation of lignocellulose and new approaches for sustainable development.
