Study on squid ink polysaccharides weakens the suppression of bone marrow induced by cyclophosphamide in rats

  • In order to explore the amelioratory effects of squid ink polysaccharides (SIPS) towards cyclophosphamide-induced suppression of bone marrow functions.Sprague-Dawley rats were employed to be co-treated with intraperitoneal cyclophosphamide and oral SIPS.Peripheral blood profile and DNA content in bone marrow were detected.Cyclophosphamide decreased significantly the quantities of erythrocytes, leukocytes and platelets in blood, contents of hemoglobin in blood and DNA in bone marrow (p<0.01 or p<0.05) .SIPS incoordinately impaired the negative changes induced by cyclophosphamide (p<0.05 or p<0.01) .It was implied that SIPS could protect bone marrow from chemotherapeutical damage caused by cyclophosphamide.
