Isolation and identification of phenyllactic acid-producing LAB

  • By the anaerobic culture, 24 strains of lactic acid bacteria were obtained from pig’s caecum, small intestine, large intestine and feces, which could produce phenyllactic acid by HPLC. Seven strains produced 80~110mg/L phenyllactic acid (PLA) , and four strains could produce even more than 119mg/L PLA. Strain r16 from feces showed the highest PLA-producing ability (233. 0mg/L) . Based on 16S rDNA sequencing analysis, combining with its morphological, physiological, and biochemistry test, strain r16 and sain m15 were identified as Lactobacillus plantarum, and stain m343 and strain m462 as Enterococcus faecalis.
