Study on chemical constituents and antimicrobial activities of lipid component of Marine Chlorella

  • Nine chemical compounds were identified from lipid component of Marine Chlorella by GC-MS analysis, including the highest content palmitic acid with the amount of 24.88 percent.Among these compounds, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) stood at 18.45 percent. Results of experiments on antimicrobial activities showed fatty acid methyl esters antibacterial effects on Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis were better than Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginos. Moreover, the antimicrobial activities of EPA methyl esters was better than crude fatty acid methyl ester and PUFA methyl ester.
