Study on acute toxicity of jujube pigment in mice

  • To explore the acute toxicity of jujube pigment in mice, the acute toxicity of jujube pigment was studied under Horn method by measuring toxic manifestations, mortality, weight gain, organ ratio, the activity of liver alanine aminotransferase ( ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase ( AST) , the content of blood urea nitrogen ( BUN) and creatinine ( CRE) . The results showed that the oral acute LD50 of jujube pigment was greater than 10.00 g/kg BW, the activities of surviving mice were normal, and weight gain did not decrease. There was significant difference in some ratio of organs with the control group, but there was no dose-response relationship. And compared with the control group, there was no significant difference in the activity of liver ALT, AST and the content of BUN, CRE.It confirm that jujube pigment is actually non-toxic grade material, and the research can not find out the decrease in weight gain and the damage to liver and kidney function. It is initial judged that the jujube pigment can be edible safety.
