Depuration of cadmium from cultured mussels (Mytilus edulis) by different removal reagents

  • Heavy metal cadmium(Cd2+) pollution is an important factor affecting the edible safety of the mussels. In this study, the depuration of cadmium by different removal reagents was explored with the cultured mussels (Mytilus edulis) as the experimental animal. Mussels exposured by Cd2+ were temporarily cultured in the natural seawater with different removal reagents. Then, the seawater containing the removal reagents was changed periodically, after the sampling, the concentrations of Cd2+ in mussels was determined by using atomic absorption spectrometry.During the depuration, the kappa-selenocarrageenan, sodium selenite,EDTA-FeNa,EDTA-ZnNa2,EDTA,ferrous chloride, ferric chloride, zinc chloride,β-glucan,peptidoglycan and calcium gluconate were designed as removal reagents. The results indicated that 60 and 120 mg/L kappa-selenocarrageenan,160 mg/L EDTA-CaNa2,and 500 mg/L β-glucan showed significant Cd2+ removal effects(p<0.05),the removal rates of which were as following:43.6%,37.2%,41.6%,and 44.6%,respectively.
