Protective Effects of Red Raspberry Anthocyanins on D-galactose Induced Mice Aging

  • To investigate the anti-aging ability of red raspberry anthocyanins on D-galactose induced aging model mice. The aging model mouse was established by injecting D-galactose into the nape of the neck. These mice were given different doses continuously (low, medium, and high 20, 100, 500 mg/(kg·d)) of red raspberry anthocyanins and VC by gavage for 8 weeks. The indexes of thymus, spleen, liver and kidney in mice were measured and to assess the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and malondialdehyde (MDA) content in the serum and liver, and detection of skin SOD, CAT, GSH-Px activities and hydroxyproline (HYP) content. Heart and kidney were taken for hematoxylin-eosinstaining (HE) pathological tissue sections to observe organ sensation damage and improvement of intragastric administration. The results showed that the thymus and spleen indexes in the medium and high dose raspberry anthocyanins groups were significantly higher than the model group (p<0.05). Red raspberry anthocyanins could significantly increase SOD, CAT, GSH-Px activities in serum, liver and skin (p<0.05) and MDA content decreased significantly (p<0.05). Moreover, the HYP content in skin increased significantly (p<0.05). HE pathology showed that with the increase of anthocyanin content in red raspberry in each treatment group, the cardiomyocytes gradually approached the blank group. The myocardial cells were arranged neatly and the nucleus was evenly distributed. The bleeding condition was also alleviated. The number of glomeruli increased, and the renal capsule cavity decreased. They were close to normal. In short, red raspberry anthocyanins have a good protective effect on aging mice caused by D-galactose.
