Research Progress in Polysaccharides of Prunella vulgaris L.

  • Polysaccharide is one of the main functional ingredients of Prunella vulgaris. A series of studies on the extraction,purification and structural analysis of P. vulgaris polysaccharides were carried out by domestic and foreign scholars,and it was proved that it had bioactivities(antioxidant,immune regulation,anti-inflammatory,anti-viral,anti-fibrosis,anti-cancer,anti-complement). The paper summarizes the research progress in extraction,contents determination,purification,isolation,structural analysis and biological activity of P.vulgaris polysaccharides,which aim at clarify the current research status,and summarizes the shortcomings of the current research. And find that the extraction and purification methods are lack of innovative research,and the structure analysis and pharmacological mechanism are not deeply studied. The extraction rate and purification efficiency of polysaccharides could be improved by using new extraction and purification methods,and further study to determine the structure of P. vulgaris polysaccharides and biological activity mechanism,which could greatly improve the utilization value of P. vulgaris polysaccharides,and provide important references for the further research and development of P. vulgaris polysaccharides.
