Protective Effect of Royal Jelly Acid on the Alcohol Liver Injury in Mice

  • Objective:To study the protective effect and mechanism of royal jelly acid on acute alcoholic liver injury in mice. Methods:A mouse model of acute liver injury was established by intragastric administration of 14 mL/kg·bw with 50%(v/v)ethanol.The mice were divided into negative control group, model group, silymarinpositive control group(35 mg/kg·bw)and low, medium, and high(33,66,and 99 mg/kg·bw)dose groups, and were given continuous gavage for 30 days.To investigate the effects of royal jelly acid on liver function and blood lipid levels, liver antioxidant levels and body alcohol metabolism in mice with acute liver injury, and to observe histopathological changes in the liver. Results:Compared with the model group, the activity of AST and ALT in serum of mice with acute alcoholic liver injury was extremely significant decreased in each dose group,TG content and other lipid indexes were extremely significant decreased(P<0.05),and the activity of ALDH and ADH was extremely significant increased in high dose group of royal jelly acid(P<0.05).In liver tissues,ALDH,ADH,SOD,GSH,GSH-Px,TNOS and iNOS activity were extremely significant increased(P<0.01),MDA content and MAO activity were extremely significant decreased(P<0.01),and liver injury was significantly reduced. Conclusion:The protective effect of royal jelly acid on alcoholic liver injury in mice may be related to accelerating the decomposition of alcohol in the body, lipid metabolism and reducing oxidative damage caused by alcohol in the body.
