Assessment of Safety and Probiotic Characteristics of Lactobacillus rhamnosus ZB1107-01

  • Lactobacillus(LCA)was isolated from 1-month-old Guangzhou baby feces. The LCA strain was identified as Lactobacillus rhamnosus. Safety evaluation experiments were implemented including hemolytic activity, antibiotic susceptibility and animal acute toxicity tests. Probiotic performance was determined by measuring the survivability in gastrointestinal, the ability of resisting pathogens, intestinal adhesion, hydrophobicity and self-aggregation,which would be compared with standard strain ATCC7469. The results showed that hemolytic activity was negative. Tetracycline, erythromycin, ampicillin and kanamycin had a strong inhibitory effect on LR-ZB1107-01.LR-ZB1107-01 was proved as an edible safe strain according to the results of animal acute toxicity tests. LR-ZB107-01 could inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus,Escherichia,Listeria monocytogenes, the inhibition ability was equal to ATCC7469. It performed well in tolerating the intestinal environment even better in pH2 artificial gastric juice than stand strain. The number of adherent Caco-2 cells was also comparable to the standard strain. Hydrophobicity(48.6%)was higher than standard strain(27.2%)while its self-aggregation ability was equal to ATCC7469. The research could provide reference for the commercial application of LR-ZB1107-01 in the food field.
