Pt-MXene Composite-Modified Electrochemical Sensors for Sensitive and Rapid Detection of the Indazoleamide Synthetic Cannabinoid MDMB-FUBINACA

Abstract: In recent years, the issue of illegal detection of indazoleamide synthetic cannabinoids, a type of new psychoactive substances, in certain snack foods has emerged. Consequently, conducting risk monitoring and joint governance research on these substances has become an urgent necessity for market regulation and public security authorities. In this work, an electrochemical sensor based on a Pt-MXene composite was developed for the highly sensitive and trace-level detection of the representative indazoleamide synthetic cannabinoid MDMB-FUBINACA. The sensor utilized conductive two-dimensional transition metal carbide/nitride (MXene) as an electrochemical modifier. Platinum nanoparticles (Pt NPs) with high electrocatalytic activity were introduced between MXene layers, synergistically enhancing the sensor's detection sensitivity. The proposed sensor exhibited a detection range of 0.025~10 μmol/L for MDMB-FUBINACA, with a detection limit as low as 0.014 μmol/L. In real-sample matrices including cookies, tap water, river water, domestic wastewater, and soil, the recovery rates ranged from 89% to 103.6%, with relative standard deviations (RSD) consistently below 8%, demonstrating excellent accuracy and sensitivity. This work not only expands the toolkit for rapid screening of indoleamide synthetic cannabinoids but also provides a practical analytical platform to support on-site monitoring and regulatory enforcement in food safety and environmental surveillance.
