Abstract: Selenium is an essential trace element for humans, which plays an important role in human health, regional development, and the national economy. Selenium-enriched foods have been designated as a key industrial chain by the People’s Government of Shaanxi Province. The standardization system for selenium-enriched food industry is helpful to promote industrial development, to facilitate technological innovation, to protect public health, and to foster international trade. The number of local standards for selenium-enriched foods in Shaanxi province is more than that in other provinces in China. However, there are still many problems in the standards for testing methods and organic selenium. In the present work, national standards, industrial standards, local standards and group standards related to selenium-enriched foods in China were reviewed systematically. The problems in the standard system of selenium-enriched food industry in Shaanxi province were analyzed. Based upon the research progress of selenium-enriched foods in our laboratory, the developmental strategies for standard system of selenium-enriched food industry in Shaanxi province were proposed. In the future, it is of practical significance to establish the standard system of organic selenium and natural selenium-enriched foods, to perform the dynamic update and revision of selenium-enriched food standards, to improve the full-chain standard system of selenium-enriched food industry, and to develop group standards and enterprise standards for selenium-enriched foods.
